DURACELL'S BIG BATTERY HUNT

Join us in our campaign that aims to help recycle up to 600 MILLION BATTERIES in Great Britain- The Big Battery Hunt

Duracell is fully committed to sustainability, working to improve its products, packaging and production facilities to further reduce their impact on the environment. Just as important is our goal to encourage everyone to correctly recycle their used batteries

Every year over 600 million batteries are thrown away in Great Britain (*1). We understand this is because people do not know how, or where, to recycle them properly. So we are here to help:

HOW TO RECYCLE YOUR BATTERIES

  • DO NOT put them in your home recycling bin as this will not work, batteries need to be separated from other types of waste before they are processed. (*2)
  • There are thousands of places collecting batteries in the UK, so there will be a retailer which is convenient for you to visit. Simply put your post-code into the Battery Finder below and it will show you a number of places close to you where you can bring your batteries for recycling.
FIND A RECYCLYNG CENTER *2 most councils don’t have the equipment to separate batteries from other waste types. They are processed in a different way that means the useful components would not be extracted and reused.

DID YOU KNOW?

All household batteries can be recycled and useful components, such as zinc, graphite, magnesium, copper and steel/metal can be extracted from them, which can be used again in many products.

Tips for brilliant household battery collection

COLLECT:

If you are collecting coin cells for recycling, put a sticker or a piece of tape over one side of the battery (the terminals), sometimes they still hold some charge so it’s to be extra safe.

REMEMBER:

Add “Recycle Batteries” to your shopping list to help you remember to take them with you when you next go out. Sometimes a battery may leak, forming a crystalline structure on the outside of the battery. This is a safety feature and it’s still fine to bring that battery for recycling.

RECYCLE:

Duracell’s cardboard packaging is made from recycled material and is also recyclable, the packaging can go in your home specific recycling bin and does not need to be brought back to a specific collection point.
